Install and Uninstall

Sneak Preview Edition of SAP Web Application Server Java 6.40

SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio

Install and Uninstall

Issue 1-1: Installation terminates before it is successfully completed.

Solution: Restart the installation program. It will continue at the point where it terminated if you do not choose to begin from scratch again. This is also the case for uninstall.

There is one exception to this procedure: For your convenience, SAPinst calls another installation program to install the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio as its last step. If you terminate this program during installation or cancel SAPinst while this program is running, SAPinst may consider the installation to be complete, although the Developer Studio has not been completely installed. During restart, SAPinst will then discontinue installation of the Developer Studio, but will propose install or uninstall for the entire Sneak Preview again. In this case, you must restart the Developer Studio install program yourself: Run <Installer Directory>\J2EE-CD\IDE\JDTSetup.exe and follow the wizard. If you have canceled Uninstall while the Developer Studio was being uninstalled, proceed accordingly: Restart <Installer Directory>\J2EE-CD\IDE\JDTSetup.exe.

Issue 1-7: I downloaded the Sneak Preview Edition from SDN, but the installation program terminates right at the beginning.

Solution: After you have downloaded SAPinst_SP_WAS640.exe from SDN and started it, you need to tell the system where to extract the installation directory "SAPinst_WAS." The path to this directory must not contain blanks. Example: C:\Program Files would not be a valid path for the installation directory!

Issue 1-8: After starting SAPinst, a window pops up and displays the error message "unknown message name" and "Problem: caught an unexpected exception." What is the problem?

Solution: You do not seem to have administration authorization on your computer. SAPinst is trying to create a directory %ProgramFiles%\sapinst to store its temporary data, but cannot do this. That is why it also fails to display a proper error message. Log off and then log on again with a user ID that has the required authorization. see Issue 1-2.

Issue1- 9: Why does another window pop up if I cancel installation?

Solution: When you cancel installation, the Graphical User Interface closes, but the SAPinst window that displays its activities remains open. Since you also cancel SAPinst after an error has occurred, this window pops up to display what happened before you quit. Choose Exit from the File menu to close this window.

Issue 1-10: SAPinst does not find a Java Development Kit with the correct version on my host.

Solution: Before installing the Sneak Preview, you have to install the Java Development Kit from Sun Microsystems on your host (for your convenience, it is included in the downloaded installer). It is not sufficient to have only the Java Runtime Environment installed. The Java Development Kit must be at least version 1.4.2_01. If have installed the correct Java Development Kit on your host and SAPinst does not find it, you should ensure the Windows Environment Variable %JAVA_HOME% points to the Java Home Directory.

Issue 1-11: After uninstall, some of the files remain on my disk. Can I remove them safely?

Solution: The SAP DB software does not delete its directories for security reasons, but they should be empty after uninstall, with the exception of a batch file named rmsapdbrte.bat. This file is started at the next reboot to delete some files that were still in use at the time of the uninstall. If you delete the SAPDB folder after uninstall but before the next reboot, these files will remain on the system and an error message will indicate that the batch file could not be found. It is safe to delete the SAPDB folder following the first reboot after uninstall. Also, the Eclipse Workspace (which is specified during installation) has not been deleted, should you wish to reuse your projects. You can safely delete this folder if you wish.

Issue 1-12: The description of the installation says: "If you have already installed SAP products on your computer, you must ensure that none of the systems are called 'J2E'." What can I do if I already have a system called "J2E"?

Solution: You still can do the installation, but no default SID is offered. You have to choose an SID during the installation. Sneak Preview Edition of SAP Web Application Server Java 6.40 has however not been tested regarding interference with other SAP systems.
