WebDAV Storage Interface for SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management - (BC-ILM)
SAP Integration and Certification Center provides a new certification scenario BC-ILM 3.1 based on the new BC-ILM 3.0 Certification Suite ABAP. Certifications based on the old Java based tools can only be applied for until October 31st, 2016. The interface specification remains unchanged.
SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management (ILM from SAP) is an end-to-end approach to help SAP customers manage the life cycle of their information from the moment of creation to the point in time the information has to be destroyed. ILM from SAP is unique in that it takes the advances in ILM-aware storage technology into account to make this end-to-end approach possible. At the core of ILM from SAP are traditional data archiving technologies, including the XML Data Archiving Service (XML DAS), which enables the storage of archived data on an external storage system through the WebDAV protocol. In addition, retention properties defined in the application play a central role in ILM from SAP, because these properties govern the life time of the information.
The WebDAV Storage Interface for the ILM solution from SAP, BC-ILM 3.0, verifies that the ILM-aware storage system supports the scope of WebDAV required for ILM from SAP. More specifically, the WebDAV subset to be supported in preparation for ILM is extended by property operations, which are syntactically covered by the WebDAV standard specification. Finally, SAP defines concrete properties and assigns dedicated ILM semantics to them. Only those WebDAV servers supporting the semantics as described in the BC-ILM 3.0 specification provide added value in terms of ILM capabilities.
Also, the approach of propagating ILM metadata through WebDAV properties to ArchiveLink-stored documents and print lists is described in this document. The corresponding features are certification-relevant.
SAP archiving customers are used to having the file system as an option for storing archived data. The ILM enrichment is only implemented for WebDAV, meaning that any ILM features of a storage system that provides a file system interface (and/or ArchiveLink connectivity) cannot be leveraged unless these features are also exposed through WebDAV taking the semantic extensions of this document into account.

The SAP Integration and Certification Center (SAP ICC) highly recommends that ISVs and partners, who are interested in certifying an integration of their product with SAP solutions, begin with our page Getting Started with Integration and Certification that explains the SAP ICC services and describes the process how to obtain them. This page helps you select the correct integration scenario and contains technical information, streaming media presentations, step-by-step guides, and much more.
Technical documentation will be provided as part of the certification process.
Benefits of Certification
Please visit the 'Certification Benefits overview page' for more information.
- After successful certification testing the ISV solution can be advertised with the following logo:
- This Certification Scenario is "SAP Solution Manager Ready". The SAP Solution Manager Ready functionality test is only provided upon vendor request and no longer mandatory part of the certification test.
- Platform User License is available for this scenario.
