Alloy Architecture Overview and Prerequisites

How Alloy Works

Alloy establishes a gateway service between SAP software (e.g. SAP Business Suite or SAP Netweaver BW) and IBM Lotus Domino server which consists of two add-ons: SAP Alloy Add-On and IBM Lotus Domino Add-On. Also, a small set of plug-ins are provisioned to the Lotus Notes client that are used to handle some Alloy meta data for performance improvements and a central Alloy sidebar component. Any message from SAP systems to Lotus Notes travels over the two add-ons using Web services and XML between them.

Unlike previous integration approaches, Alloy is driven through metadata. This enables greater performance and flexibility. SAP configurations are reflected from SAP Business Suite in Lotus Notes automatically. For example, when a report definition on the SAP side is changed, the worker gets the latest report parameters on the Lotus Notes side.

The following tables describe the planned requirements. Since these are subject to change, please verify through the standard channels such as the IBM product requirements website or the SAP Service Marketplace for the current PAM (Product Availability Matrix) before making commitments.
