SAP BusinessObjects Data Services out of the box supports connectivity to many main-stream (a.k.a. core) databases as source and target Datastores. The supported database connectivity is documented in SAP BusinessObjects Supported Platforms document (a.k.a. Products Availability Report or PAR). However, as the number of database and data warehouse products on the market continues to grow, SAP BusinessObjects Data Services also supports connecting to a not-directly-supported (a.k.a. non-core) Datastore through generic ODBC mechanism.
In order to reduce the total cost of ownership for customers, broaden the number of database products that can be used as Datastore for Data Services, and achieve a reasonable level of compatibility with a particular non-core Datastore, SAP has designed certification of non-core Datastore for Data Services. The certification test a combination of
- a particular platform-dependent ODBC driver (on Windows, or on a particular Unix/Linux platform), and
- a particular backend database
as ETL souce and target datastore for Data Services.
Depends on what ODBC driver is available, the vendor can elect to conduct one or several variants of the certification:
- A ODBC driver is available for the Windows platform
- An ODBC driver is available for a particular BusinessObjects-supported UNIX/Linux platform, in addition to the Windows ODBC driver.
Currently the following UNIX/Linux platforms are supported to run BusinessObjects Enterprise software:
- Solaris SPARC 64
- HP-UX Itanium 64
- AIX 64
- Linux 32
- Linux 64
The Designer is only supported on the Windows platform, and that's why Windows ODBC driver is also required for this variant of certification.
A data source vendor can freely choose one of the above certification variants, or several of the above certification variants, based on their customer, market and business needs.
The SAP Integration and Certification Center (SAP ICC) highly recommends that ISVs and partners, who are interested in certifying an integration of their product with SAP solutions, begin with our page Getting Started with Integration and Certification that explains the SAP ICC services and describes the process how to obtain them. This page helps you select the correct integration scenario and contains technical information, streaming media presentations, step-by-step guides, and much more.
