Query Pruning helps to optimize reading access for reporting scenarios in SAP NetWeaver BW. This guide will touch on existing techniques of query pruning for all BW releases and dive deeper into new PartProvider Pruning method.
When using BW, you will always be required to implement one or more enhancements. Some of these are a one-off enhancement. This means that one project can not easily be seperated and cross locking of the same object might occurs in the project. This "How-to" supplies an approach that uses the enhancement builder (SE18/SE19) to build a framework that enables you to create custom user exit variables and DataSource enhancements using the new BADI concept.
This guide describes the necessary steps to create a generic extractor from IS Retail MEAN table to upload the deleted EAN material assignments into the 0RPA_MEAN InfoObject in SAP BW. It contains an additional master data extraction scenario based on the implementation steps described in SAP note 835111 and is mainly relevant for customers running SAP POSDM with automated master data checks based on EAN level. 1 Dec 2010.
SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius is a widely used dashboarding tool. It has the capability to show data from various sources and data bases, including data residing in SAP NetWeaver BW. With the latest version of Xcelsius and SAP NetWeaver BW 7.01 SP5, a new connection type for SAP BW data is offered. It helps to create dashboards using existing Bex Queries in SAP BW. The Xcelsius dashboard can be stored on the BW server as a separate object type what helps in making use of different features such as transport for instance. This guide explains how Xcelsius dashboard objects could be written to a workbench request in SAP NetWeaver BW for transporting across different systems in the landscape. 17 Feb 2010.

A level of automation and usability is required for daily monitoring of the requests from the error stack. Currently the report RSB_ANALYZE_ERRORLOG provides an overview of all the DTP error stack requests and the number of records marked with errors but does not have the flexibility to use this information. This document provides a step by step instruction on how this information can be obtained in the similar way as the above mentioned report and automates the process of monitoring the error requests. 31 May 2009

The goal of this How-To paper is to provide the materials necessary to help, customers, consultants and partners more effectively manage SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator project expectations by gaining a better understanding of the scenarios where the accelerator has the greatest impact within their BW environments. Ultimately, these materials will contribute to a sound understanding of many accelerator scenarios and streamline the project implementation. 08 Feb 2009
Data volumes in the entry layer (Persistent Staging Area - PSA) of the SAP BI systems very often heavily increase over time. However, since the data might be needed for further requirements and often can not be re-loaded from the original source systems, it can not be deleted from the SAP BI system for good. A solution might be to create an additional layer in the SAP BI system based on DataStore Objects which can be archived using the standard BI Archiving functionality, or to use a product from a 3rd party vendor. Alternatively, this How-to guide provides a solution to archive data from PSA based on ADK (Archiving Development Kit). 23 Dec 2008
This How-to document motivates the usage of Data Quality measures of the data within an organization and the decision making process. It introduces the Data Services architecture and its components and features. The document provides decision support on which product (SAP NetWeaver BI or Data Services) to use to fulfill a specific requirement. The document describes the required steps to connect Data Services with SAP NetWeaver BI (and vice versa). It shows the usage of basic Data Services features like Profiling, Domain Value (Plausibility) Check, Pattern Matching and String Matching on sample customer data. Eventually, the cleansed data is loaded into the SAP NetWeaver BI system. 17 Nov 2008
This How-to Guide takes Data Quality measures to the next level. The introduced Data / Address Cleansing, Matching and Auditing features allow for powerful analysis and massaging of the data. Data Services delivers pre-defined versions (customizing) for these features, yet allows the user also to define its own strategies based on custom-defined dictionaries and rules. The How-to Guide explains the main features and provides a step-by-step guide to use them in Data Services based on sample customer data. 17 Nov 2008

Business Planning and Analytical Services
In many planning project it is not only necessary to create new plan data but also to keep track how this new data originated. Thus a mechanism is necessary that logs all changes done in the plan data – either when new data is created or existing data is changed. Usually the logging information contains information about the user who has done the changes and the date and time when these changes where performed. This paper gives an example how the new logging BAdI delivered with SAPNetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 (SP6) can be used to log information about these changes in a DataStore Object. As the example is very generic the contained coding can be easily adapted to a given customer scenario. 11 May 2010.
BI Integrated Planning concentrates mainly on key figure planning. Nevertheless there is quite often the need to manually change the characteristic values of a record during the planning process. This how-to paper describes a technique that can be used by the end user to replace characteristic values in records either by choosing existing values from a drop down box or by entering new values (for a characteristic without master data) in an input field. Thus this technique can be used to do a lightweight master data planning. The how-to paper explains the underlying technique and gives a step by step description on how this techniques can be used in a Web template. 08 Nov 2009.
It is very common that within a planning application several plan queries are used. For usability and performance reasons, these queries are usually placed on different tab strips (BEx Web) or Worksheets (BEx Analyzer). An easy example could be a revenue planning where the end user can enter the prices, the sold volumes, and can view the calculated revenue. The end user starts with entering the prices on the first tab strip and moves then on to the second tab strip with the sales volumes and the calculated revenue. In this How to Paper, we will show how the performance of such planning applications can be improved. 30 Jun 2009
In planning projects we often deal with a great number of plan data for the entire project. The single planners usually are also responsible for a great amount of data but often only change a small subset of this data. Which data will be changed by the user cannot be foreseen. On the other hand the number of touched records is a crucial parameter that drives the performance of planning functions. Thus the number of those records should be restricted as much as possible. This how to paper will show how to model a system where the records changed by the user will be marked by a flag. The flag can then be used to build up a minimal selection for the planning function. 25 Jan 2009
Often users want to be able to have a simple offline planning solution. They want to open their normal Bex Analyzer Workbooks, save them locally on the disc and want to enter new data offline. At a later point of time they want to log on to the system again by starting the Bex Analyzer, open the locally saved workbook, and save the changed data to the system. It is crucial that there is no separate offline solution but that the same workbooks as in online planning are used. This paper will show how to use some macros to enable such a solution. 04 Dec 2008

In planning projects we typically have the situation that each user is responsible for a certain work-package. These work-packages usually also depend on the planning application. The work packages of two different users might be disjoint or they might overlap. For latter case, locking conflicts may arise. This how-to paper shows how work-packages can be modeled efficiently to avoid locking issues. 03 Dec 2007
