Step 1: Master Data Materials

Master Data Materials represent a central point of access used to define central master data; create and modify master data structures as well as to create, modify, delete, and upload attributes for master data.

B. The Situation: "An Explanation from a Table Production Worker"

"To produce a table with the SAP-system you have to enter master data which is necessary for the production, purchase, and the selling of the table.

If you want to purchase materials you must enter the necessary master data for your customer into the system.

In addition, it is important to have a master record of the suppliers (and vendors).

The master data should address both the raw material and operating supplies (auxiliary supplies).

To produce the table the following raw materials are required:

1. The Wooden Plate

2. The Tubular Steel Stand

The screws represent operating supplies.

The master data from the sectors "Production" and "Controlling" will be posted and are very important. Only then can you produce this table within the SAP-system.

Examples include the following:

1. Bill of materials

2. Work centers

It is important to enter this data.

Regarding the bill of material:

The bill of material is a list, in which the materials are listed that are necessary to produce (in this case the table).

Regarding the work center:

In this case, we need 2 work centers. First we need a work center for the worker, and secondly, we need one for the machine! For example, in the "work center" we determine how much time we estimate the job of both the worker and the machine. During this period of time we need to calculate how many tables we can be produced in a certain period of time.

As a result, we can calculate how much one table costs to be produced."

C. Task:

1. Please implement the new master data for the "TABLE BASIC" (as well as all the master data for raw materials and auxiliary supplies!).

Ask your instructor for the organizational units and the numbers of the material.

You have to enter the following master data:

1. The table as a finished product.

2. The wooden plate as a raw material.

3. The tubular steel stand as a raw material.

4. The screws are operating supplies.

Please note: you may not only enter the master data for the materials for the table but also for the table itself! The reason for that? In the end - after you have produced the table - you will not sell some single raw materials or auxiliary supplies but an entire table.

2. Please create the list of items for the "TABLE BASIC" now.

Be careful NOT to give the finished product "TABLE BASIC" an extra position in the bill of material!!!

In the bill of material please only generate the following materials:

  • Wooden Plate
  • Tubular Steel Stand
  • Screws
