How to activate the Resource Scheduler - Prerequisites

This document is intended to update and add additional information to the already existing blog http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-65856.

To activate and use the Resource Scheduler in field service scenarios the following steps have to be executed:

  1. Adapt scoping
  2. Adapt your Business Role
  3. Check that the relevant Service Units in Organizational Model are maintained
  4. Check that Service Employees have Working Hours maintained
  5. Create a scheduling relevant Ticket
  6. Navigate to the Resource Scheduler and assign demands to service employees

1. Adapt Scoping

You need to activate the functionality by reviewing the question in BC Configuration related to Resource Scheduling as shown below:

2. Adapt your Business Role

After activating the Resource Scheduler in Scoping, you have to add the resource scheduler to your business role(s):

3. Check that the relevant Service Units in Organizational Model

Be sure that all scheduling relevant service units are marked as service units in organizational model. In the resource scheduler you do the planning based on service teams, hence it is important that the relevant units are marked as 'Service' units.

4. Check that Service Employees have Working Hours maintained

If you open the Resource Scheduler and there are no employees displayed to do the assignments than it is very likely that you haven't maintained the business hours for your service employees. Please check the business hours of the relevant employees:

5. Create a Ticket with a service item and maintain responsible service team

When you create a ticket, which is relevant for the Resource Scheduler application you have to

  • maintain the responsible service technician team,
  • add a service item with a respective unit (e.g. hours),
  • mark the item for scheduling relevant (Column in the item list) and finally
  • release the item via the action 'Release for scheduling

6. Navigate to the Resource Scheduler and assign demands to service employees

Now you can navigate to the Work Center 'Resource Scheduler' where the scheduling relevant items are displayed as demands. Those demands can be assigned to employees by using Drag&Drop:
