The best way to do backup and restore is to use the built-in online backup functionality. If you have a copy of a backup image, then you can use sp_RestoreFreeTables to restore it.
The main problem with simply copy of the original database backup is that it does not typically create a logically correct "snapshot" of the database. This can lead to a number of problems with inconsistent data (e.g., if the data was copied while a transaction was active, then the data itself could be in an inconsistent state). This could be somewhat tricky to even detect. In fact, that is probably the most common type of corruption due to making a simple copy of an active database. Fortunately, that is relatively easy to correct. You should be able to fix that just by re-indexing all the tables.
