WALL OF FAME: SAP Lumira University Challenge ANZ 2014 - Third Prize Winner

CONGRATULATIONS TO VIVIAN MA!

Title: Towards a Healthier World

Vivian Ma:

I am a third year Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of New South Wales, majoring in Accounting and Information Systems. Throughout my degree, I have completed internships where I had the opportunity to use visualisation tools to analyse data and simplify
reporting so that information can be communicated to business users in an easier to understand format. I have developed a particular interest in the use of analytical tools that can reduce the time required for business users to prepare reports and analyse data, so that they can focus on delivery and decision making.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano, singing, playing tennis, hiking and relaxing at the beach. I am also a keen traveller and have big dreams to explore the world!

How do you feel when you learn that you have won this Challenge?

I felt extremely excited when I saw the announcement. I am incredibly humbled to have received a prize of this challenge and be  recognised for the effort I put into the visualisation. My goal in winning this challenge is to demonstrate to others the power of visualisation tools and the sheer amount of information that can be communicated through a chart in a few minutes, as opposed to spending hours examining hundreds of thousands of records in a table. I am considering a career in Analytics so participating in this challenge has definitely been a step in the right direction.

What challenges did you face and how you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was the data cleansing stage of the process. In order for data to be visualised effectively, the data must be in the correct format. Data cleansing was performed using Microsoft Excel and it took a substantial amount of time. I had to import the file several times after performing more data cleansing before I was finally happy with what visuals I could produce.
