SAP Business Suite for SAP HANA allow access to all data at any level of granularity, combined with the ability to perform predictive analysis, handle structured and unstructured data

SAP HANA Live for SAP Business Suite provides an open environment allowing operational analytic and reporting on real-time Business Suite data. Based on analytic views in a virtual data model, business users gain new ways to analyze operational data to build their own reports without the need for release cycles to promote new reports to a production EDW environment.

Does SAP BusinessSuite for HANA eliminates the need for a data warehouse (EDW)?

S/4HANA eliminates the need for operational data marts, as OLAP processes can run together with OLTP in a single database on the SAP HANA database.

Traditional data warehouses were used to outsource operational reporting via replicating data using ETL processes, and are usually bloated by data hoarding activities making it difficult and expensive to use the 20% of data which are most relevant to the business. Cheap storage like Hadoop reduces the HW TCO of data hoarding activities, and the EDW of the future based on a Logical EDW approach will incorporate massive cheap storage for example for the huge amount of sensor data captured.

While Big Data Business Value can be sourced from an EDW for long-term trending analysis, nevertheless real-time Business Processes can not wait for 24h batch operations of traditional ETL processes, and need instead real-time processing and analysis of streaming data.

Smart Data Streaming Integration Options

High level capabilities of a data warehouse are generally accepted as:
• Integrating data from various data sources to common semantics given by the Data Warehouse data model, for example from CRM on HANA and ERP on HANA.
• Harmonizing master data values
• Establishing a ‘single version of truth’  delivering a common view of enterprise data across LoB's and Regions and different applications
• Providing a single, comprehensive source combining current and historical information

What is the SAP 's view on BW?

SAP provides customers with multiple choices, and SAP BW is one of these choices. Modeling of a data warehouse requires a sophisticated toolset for security, governance, request handling, metadata management, out of the box functionality, pre-delivered content etc.

This is what BW is made for and will be our data warehouse solution going forward with an even stronger positioning. So-called operational data marts and agile data marts typically do not require a lot of integration and harmonization work with other data marts since they are build for a very specific purpose and audience. They are based on the entity relationship model, meta data and master data of the source system. Data Warehouses are made for integrating and harmonizing different sources and bring the data into one standardized model which is the basis for enabling global reporting. This requires a sophisticated solution, and SAP BW is the perfect solution for this.
In the past we had to implement operational reporting in SAP BW due to lack of technology on the ERP side. This changed now with SAP BusinessSuite powered by HANA where we can build those type of reports in the HANA Modeler, and the SAP HANA Analytics Foundation enables this process. In case SHAF runs in a sidecar scenario, and SAP BW runs on the same appliance, we can run mixed scenarios, where e.g.  a BW TransientProvider can consume any HANA model directly  and vice versa, a SAP HANA model can consume SAP BW data models. In both cases this can be accomplished without additional data replication, eliminating data redundancy  and latency.
