How should my SAP BW on HANA system landscape look like?

This is driven by the customer specific test and release procedures. In general, if migrating from a BW to a BW on HANA landscape, everything would stay the same except, you do not need the BWA landscape anymore.

If it is a new implementation, then traditionally there is 1 Sandbox + 3 Prod support + 2 Release systems.

As an additional scenario, SAP does support the deployment of multiple SAP NetWeaver BW systems within a single-node, non-production SAP HANA system (with one DB for each SAP BW system).

SAP currently does support the deployment of multiple SAP NetWeaver BW systems within a scale-out (multi-node) non-production SAP HANA system (with one DB for each SAP BW system) as an SAP-managed project solution.

We plan to offer generally available support for this in the near future. Please see SAP note 1666670 and subscribe to receive regular updates.

Do we need to have a Development, QA and a Production environment for BW on HANA?

Yes, the standard SAP best practice for a release and production support landscape also applies to SAP BW on HANA.

SAP BW on HANA allows customers to run the DEV and QA environment on the same box.

Can we connect a HANA data model to a SAP BW on HANA system?

Yes, the easiest way is to upgrade your BW system to a BW on HANA system, and then you can seamlessly consume the data in either system.

Can we connect multiple SAP systems to a single BW on HANA system to load data to HANA data models (not BW models), and how would we avoid an overwrite in HANA?

Yes, you can connect mutiple SAP systems to a SAP HANA data model in the BW on HANA system. You will need unique HANA schemas to point to each source system in order to avoid an overwrite in HANA.
