The (free) developer account on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform
As we constantly get questions around what you can do with the free developer account on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform I've put together this document with the help of my colleagues from the SAP HANA Cloud Platform team. If something changes I'll keep this document up-to-date so that it reflects the most current state of what you can do with a free developer account.
A free developer account on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform is provided to you with a free and perpetual developer license which you accept when you create your free developer account. You can use such an account to try and test out the platform.
There are various offerings for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform reaching from a completely free version to productive packages. Compared to a productive (paid) account there are a few differences that are outlined in the following table:
Price and license
Free and perpetual account under a developer license
You get the account for free and the account doesn't expire.
The developer license allows you to use the SAP HANA Cloud Platform for non-productive usage.
The pricing for the SAP HANA Cloud Platform is available at http://hcp.sap.com/pricing.html.
Productive and beta services
With your developer account you have access to most of the productive services. But you also get early access to beta functionality.
The account doesn’t offer any service level agreement with regards to the availability of the platform.
Only one member per account
You can't add any additional members to your account
1GB on shared HANA instance
With your account you also get a HANA instance for free. Compared to a productive instance on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform there are a few differences
If you want to go deeper and expand your development know-how only on SAP HANA you can use the SAP HANA Developer Edition available on Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. Please note the SAP HANA Developer Edition does not include any application services you might have used from the SAP HANA Cloud Platform. The license for the SAP HANA Developer Edition is also free, hosting costs apply depending the instance size and hosting partner costs. The Developer Edition is also limited to non-productive usage.
