Which AWS instance types, guest operating system and database versions does SAP support with Amazon Web Services?

SAP supports all AWS instance types, guest operating system and database versions, that are listed in SAP Note 1656099. For a fast overview on supported combinations, see SAP on Amazon Web Services.

Which prerequisites must be met to operate my SAP application with Amazon Web Services?

Beside the AWS support contract prerequisites, you need to follow special guidelines to operate your SAP applications with Amazon Web Services. These guidelines cover technical prerequisites for the setup of SAP Enhanced monitoring, network and storage. For detailed documentation, see SAP Note SAP Note 1656250.

Can I consult SAP support without having enabled SAP Enhanced Monitoring?

Unfortunately, SAP is not able to provide support without having detailed configuration and resource utilization counters available from the underlying AWS infrastructure. These counters are kept as snapshot and history data by setting up the SAP Enhanced Monitoring. Without these counters, SAP applications fly "blindly" on the underlying infrastructure and SAP support cannot help.

Is TREX or Livecache supported with Amazon Web Services?

Yes, TREX and Livecache are supported with all versions that are listed in SAP Note 1656099.

Is MDM supported with Amazon Web Services?

Currently, SAP does not support MDM with Amazon Web Services.

What happens to my SAP license when I migrate my SAP NetWeaver based application to Amazon Web Services?

SAP changed the license mechanism when operating SAP NetWeaver based applications in public cloud offerings. Therefore, you need to renew your SAP license once after migrating your SAP VM to Amazon Web Services within the next 4 weeks. In the meantime, you can operate your SAP system using the SAP temporary license.

What happens to my SAP license when I copy, move or restore a VM running SAP NetWeaver based applications with Amazon Web Services?

Your SAP license will remain unchanged, if you:

  • Move your VM inside of the AWS infrastructure
  • Start/stop your VM.

Your SAP license key needs to be renewed, if you:

  • Copy your VM inside of the AWS infrastructure
  • Backup and restore a VM
  • Change the hostname of the VM
  • Sysprep the Windows guest OS inside the VM

How do I log a support call?

To log a support call at SAP contacting AWS support, open an OSS ticket at component BC-OP-NT-AWS or BC-OP-LNX-AWS.

How can I automatically deploy SAP software on Amazon Web Services?

Instead of installing SAP Systems on Amazon Web Services manually SAP is also providing a new way that allows you to deploy a variety of systems on those platforms fully automated with just a few clicks. In SAP Cloud Appliance Library, you simply register your cloud account, select the desired product and SAP takes care of the delivery, deployment and initial configuration of the SAP software. You there find free Trials and Developer Editions of SAP products which come with demo content as well as community support. Also, a variety of production ready systems are available which come with standard SAP support in case it is required.

How can I enable SAP Enhanced Monitoring?

Enable the AWS CloudWatch Detailed Monitoring with a one-minute interval and make sure the AWS Data Provider for SAP is up and running. For detailed information how to set up the SAP Enhanced Monitoring, see SAP Note SAP Note 1656250.
