SUP 2.x. Installing and creating a connection to IBM DB2.

SUP 2.x. Installing and creating a connection to IBM DB2.

Purpose

This technical document explains how to install the IBM DB2 driver and configure
a connection to the DB2 server in SUP.

Required Software

1.            SUP 2.x.x or higher
2.            IBM DB2 drivers

Assumption

This document assumes you have a working SUP environment.
You need to have access to a DB2 Server.
You need to have DB2 Drivers from IBM.

Step 1– Adding the DB2 driver to the SUP  Environment:

a.    User needs to manually install the DB2 driver in order for Workspace and SUP server to consume them.

Solution

In order to add the Jar files for IBM DB2, you need to have access to the SUP Environment.
1.    Down load the DB2 drivers from IBM.
2.    Unzip or UNRAR the file down loaded from IBM.
3.    You should have three JAR files see list below.
Once you download the drivers you should have a set of JAR file similar to the following list.
Ø  db2jcc.jar
Ø  db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar
Ø  db2jcc_license_cu.jar
4.    Copy the three JAR files to the following locations.
Ø  C:\SAP\MobilePlatform\MobileSDK23\MobileWorkSpace\mobile\eclipse\plugins\com.sybase.uep.com.db2_2.3.0.201301212158\lib

Ø  C:\SAP\MobilePlatform\Server\Unwiredserver\lib\3Party
5.    Once you are done with the copying of the files reboot your SUP server.
6.    Start the SUP Workspace.
7.    Go to the Enterprise Explorer.
8.    Right click on Database Connections and select New.

11.  Select the Clear all button.
12.  Select the Add JAR/Zip button.
13.  Brows to the lib folder where you installed the JAR files
14.  You will need to select one jar at a time until you have selected all three.

This completes the install process for the IBM DB2 Jar files.

Step 2 – Creating the DB2 Connection:

User needs to add a Data source in order to connect to DB2.

Solution

In order to do that, you need to do the following steps.
1.    Go to the Enterprise Explorer
2.    Right click on Database Connections and select New.

3.        Drivers pull down menu select the Driver you install in the first steps
4.        Add your Database Name
5.        Add your Host name or TCP/IP address
6.        Add the port number the DB2 Server is listening on
7.        Add your User Name
8.        Add your Password.

9. Click Finish
10. Click the Test Connection Button.
This concludes the Data Source configuration of the DB2 driver.

Step 3 – trouble shooting and tracing the DB2 driver connection:

a.    Unable to connect using the DB2 drivers.

Solution

In order to get a clearer idea of what may be wrong we need to do the following steps.
1.    Check the locations where you copied the three JAR files.
2.    Make sure all three JAR file are located in the lib folders.
3.    Restart the SUP server and the Workspace.
4.    Open Workspace and go to Enterprise Explorer.
5.    Double click on the DB2 Data source.
6.    Go to the tracing TAB.
7.    Remove the check from the square box Disable tracing.
8.    Click on the button Select all.
9.    Perform a test connect.
10.  Check the DB2 drivers trace log.

Figure Review the trace and look for the error this will give you a clue to what is wrong.
This document explained in details about the steps needed to install the DB2 JDBC driver and how to create a connection. Review on how to enable the DB2 tracing.
