·   ASUG 5001: Global Mining Company MMG: Success Story on Using SAP ORM to Drive Operational Excellence

Speaker: MMG

Mining companies face many challenges as they try to reduce cost and risk while growing their global business in a safe and sustainable manner. Increased regulatory demands, high energy costs, and commodity price volatility make it difficult to maximize utilization, performance, and output of highly capital intensive assets, while keeping track of costs, quality, energy consumption, operational safety, and the environment. Learn how MMG uses the SAP Operational Risk Management and energy solutions to drive continuous improvement in safety and operating performance.

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 11:00pm –12:00pm

·   ASUG 5003: Get Full Value Out of Your SAP Implementation Through Integration With Intelligent Sensors (RFID)

More often than not, every SAP implementation encounters a roadblock post-implementation in the ability to gather correct data and harness the full potential of the solution. In this fast paced technological world, SAP has integrated with Intelligent Sensor Networks to increase ROI. Data capture automation resulted in the reduction of process cycle time, manpower reduction, increased throughput (cost savings of $11.65 million), and increase in road logistics share by 21% within the first year. One such implementation at a mining company has achieved just that. Complete data accuracy, process transparency, minimized data handling, and leveraging the SAP infrastructure to derive business benefits and realign strategies in logistics processes. The unique RFID-enabled “ore tracking system" has taken the advantage of SAP for mining locations where consistent connectivity was holding back SAP implementation. This presentation will discuss the success story of the project.

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 1:45pm –2:45pm

Room; Lake Mizell, Hilton Hotel

·         ASUG 5004: VALE: Mobilizing More Than 10,000 Field Workers in One Single SAP Installation

Speaker: Romeu Sciotta (SIGGA)

VALE, headquartered in Brazil, is the world’s second largest mining company, leader in iron-ore production, and second biggest nickel producer, present in all five continents and 37 countries. Currently, VALE is facing one of the most important milestones in its IT history. Specifically, to implement a strategy of standardizing business processes, software products, and technologies for different types of companies all over the world in one SAP installation; and mobilizing people is a key success factor of that strategy. In this session, attendees will hear how VALE is facing that challenge, especially in the mobile Enterprise Asset Management area, and at the same time, replacing a solution that is up and running since 2004. In terms of mobility, attendees will also learn about:  benefits they have measured ; challenges to define the new IT standard with all new technologies available,  current project status, including problems, issues, and solutions; and strategy for the future.

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 2:45pm –3:45pm

Room; Lake Mizell, Hilton Hote

·   ASUG 5005: Mobility in the Mining Industry? Why? How? What?

Speaker: Stefan Soeller (SAP)

As the world goes mobile, the question for mining companies isn’t if they should go mobile (if that’s still a big question for you, we will address the “why” in this presentation) or when they will embrace the change, it’s mainly how they should do it. Answering the “how” will be the main topic of this presentation. The other important question is what kind of business processes should be mobilized? This will be the focus of the second part of the presentation where presenters will cover the most relevant use cases in the mining industry.

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 3:45pm –4:30pm

Room; Lake Mizell, Hilton Hotel

·   ASUG 5006: Controlling Mining Costs and Managing Risk through Planning and Technology

Speaker: Ron Babich (Hard Dollar)

Proper planning through mining project management technology is the best way to mitigate financial risks. Project managers have good intentions, but often lack the resources to properly analyze processes to achieve a more efficient workflow and standardization. Integrating appropriate protocols and software implementation for management of internal and external risks enables smooth project execution, which results in increased productivity and profitability. This session will provide a step-by-step protocol on migrating SAP data into other software systems, including project intelligence reports, dashboards, and graphs for optimized visibility and clear communication among internal and external project stakeholders. Attendees will also learn best practices to gain control of costs and manage risks by integrating the systems-of-record to centralize cost and productivity..

Date: Wednesday, May 15, 4:15pm –5:15pm
