TM Technical FAQ

#1. Technical Questions

#Which Business Functions are required for SAP TM 8.0?

#Which version for SAP Event Management do I need to install for TM 8.0?

The EM standard content for SAP TM 8.0 is available in SAP EM 7.0 EhP1 from SP03 on.

#How can I extend the validity of our factory calenders?

SAP ships Holiday and Factory calenders which all are valid until 2010. Notes 1426524 and 1529649 describe how the validity can be extended manually.

#What are the general Geo Coder Settings?

In international outbound transport scenario several countries need to be defined in the Geo Coder customizing and assigned to a Source.
Source 'SAP0' indicates that the geocoordinates of the assigned country e.g. DK, ES will be determined on country or on region level. Those coordinates are shipped within SAP TM 8.0 by default. Hence, no external geoservice needs to be called in order to receive geographical information of longitude and latitude. However it is recommended that an external geoservice is used to geocode locations. As the external geoservice is able to provide coordinates on a more detailed level (e.g. street or house number) the granularity of distance and duration determination results are then much better.

#How to switch off geo coding during business partner creation?

During business partner creation it can happen that geo coding is executed. For TM this is not needed and can be deactivated. To deactivate geo coding
during BP creation execute report 'GEOCODING_SET_GEOFLAG', activate the checkbox "Disable Geoservices" and execute. This report does not disable the geo services  for locations.

#Geocoordinates of location master do not mach with Google maps

The reason for that is that location master contains coordinates in degree, minutes and seconds (circular measures), while Google is using standard digits
with decimal places.

#What synchronization tools for Customizing settings are there?

#Which technical usages need to be installed for TM 8.0 in ECC 6.00 EnhP 5?

Needed usages are:

  • SAP ECC Server VPack successor
  • Central Applications

In case the NW Business Client shall be used also "SAP Frontend Business Client" is needed. In case BI content shall be shown using Excelsius (Dash
Boards etc.) also "BI Jave" is needed.

#How to adapt TM UI layout for one or all users (personalization)

When starting the application in browser with the additional parameter sap-config-mode=X, then the personalization changes done to e.g. profile list
are valid for all users.

  • This is valid for all TM screens, that are built with Floor Plan Manager
  • To start an aplication independently, logon to SAP GUI and follow the same menu path as in NWBC.

In general, you are able to save user independent ALV layouts, when starting any WebDynpro application containing ALV lists using the above parameter. It is also possible to define one of them as default profile for all users. Another way to create user specific or unspecific layouts for Transportation Cockpit,
Carrier Selection or Delivery Creation is via menu path Application Administration -> Planning -> General Settings -> Page Layouts.

#Which PI content is needed for A2A or B2B messages?

PI content is available for PI 7.02 and PI 7.11. ESR content is not mandatory, but is recommended because it provides a good overview over the
message structure and you need it to be able to extend any messages.

#Where can I see the message structure of PI messages

In ECC we have Idocs and with TRX WE60 one can view the definition of the IDOCS segments and fields. Is there such an overview of the PI messages that are generated in TM?
Details of the message structures can be seen in transaction SPROXY in the backend system. There you can check the external view of the message to see the structure, nodes, elements and so on. In the transaction follow the path:
-> SAP TM1.0 -> -> Service Interfaces

B2B messages are also described in detail within the files that are attached to note 1512334.

#How to setup A2A communication between ECC and TM?

  • Follow the instructions from the configuration guide (CG_TM_ERP_BASIC_Final) provided with Solution Manager Content.
  • In addition the following steps need to be performed:
    • Follow the correction instruction from note 1548792
    • In case of problem note 1530240 might help. It mentions also BAdIs which can be used to restrict the A2A communication to
      specific ECC orders etc.

#Where can I get more information on how to work with the Core Interface (CIF)?

Description on how to setup CIF in the online help portal: documentation. There is a best practice document describing how to manage the Core
. See chapter "Operation an Monitoring of the APO CIF".

#I cannot see the TM tab in transaction MIRO in ERP, how can that be enabled?

The parameter TM_INVOICE_CLERK (without a value) has to be added to the user profile, then the tab will be displayed.

#How can I switch on the Explanation Tool?

You need to add a parameter to the user profile in su01
value: X

#What can I do in case I get error message of type SYSTEM_NO_SHM_MEMORY?

For TM 8.0 (and probably future releases also) we recommend to change the default value for parameter abap/shared_objects_size_MB from
20MB to 150MB (see note 1322182).

#What can I do in case I have problems with the optimizer?

If you have questions about an optimization run, the first step is to use the explanation protocol to check the input and output data of the optimizer:
In SAP Transportation Management, the optimizer sends an explanation protocol together with the result. You have to activate the explanation protocol,
before you can use it in the following optimization calls. To enable the explanation report, set the user parameter
"/SCMTMS/EXP" to "X". After that, you have two options to access the explanation protocol.

  • From the Transportation Cockpit you can directly access the explanation protocol of the most recent optimization call.
  • You can start transaction RCC_LOG. There you can select an optimization run. Via a click on the explanation column, you can open the explanation report for his run. The explanation report displays the input data and the output data of the optimizer.

If the protocol does not help you and you need to send a ticket about the VSR optimizer to SAP for support, please follow these recommendations:

  • Create an example to reproduce the reason for the ticket. If possible, do this with a single threaded call of the optimizer.
  • Enable the tracing and saving of the input data. In Transportation Management 8.0 it is the path Application Administration
-> General Settings -> Remote Control and Communication Framework -> Settings -> Engine Debug Configuration.
Be aware, that here is a distinction between the VSR optimizer and the transportation proposal call.
  • Reproduce the optimizer call. Then note in the ticket the exact time and the user of the optimizer call, so that we can reproduce the optimization

#Where can I find sizing information for the optimizer?

Whitepapers and Sizing for VSR-Optimierer can be found in note 1520433.

#How can I change the display of the distance in lane/ zone definition from KM to MILE?

The display (not the value on the database) can be changed by adding a user param:

#2. Business & Process Related Questions

#A purchase Order cannot be processed in TM, the error text in the xml-message is "Incoterm transfer location <location name> does not exist in Customizing". What is wrong?

Problem could be that the incoterm location mapping has not been maintained correctly. It is absolutely crucial that the values to establish the mapping are
equal. Please check in ERP Transaction XK02, choose your vendor and display tab purchasing data. Entry for field Incoterm must correspond to
TM -> Master Data -> Transportation Network -> Assign Location to Incoterm Location -> Incoterm Location (Free Text).
