Hi,
Please let me know weather variant configuration is needed for steel industry or not?. Its related to tracing of material with respect to grade (and composition ) wise.
RB
Hi RB,
VC is very much required in primary steel industry.
Batch management (tracing based on grade) - as explained by you is one of the applications of VC. but the other main reasons for VC being required in Steel industry is because of the huge no of variants in a material.
For example, the same grade steel might be sold at different lengths,, widths and thicknesses, you would not want to maintain an individual material number, BOM & routing for every combination that is being sold because it is laborious work and creates heavy load on ur DB. So you define a variant for that grade and define length, width and thickness as characteristics which can have a wide range of values and with just one super BOM and Super routing & object dependencies you can define BOM selection for any length/thickness/width combination...
Hope this clarifies your query...
Regards,
Ashok
