I am trying to Import a simple Hierarchy table with following fields.
Division
|_
. . subdivision
. . . |_
. . . . Manufacturer
I am able to map it when i put only Division as the 'Display Field'.
When i put all the the three fields as display fields i am able to map and import it.
Question
- I only want Manufacturer to be displayed in the main table so why cant I make only that as the display table and map?
- Why am i not able to map when i put all the the three fields as display fields
Gaurav,
According to me there is no need to take 3 fields in hierarchy when you want only manufacturer to be displayed in main table. Name field comes by default in hierachy table which is also a DF and that is sufficient for that. Just you need to take care while adding record in hierachy table.
Add:
Division (Parent Node)
|_
. . subdivision (Division's Child)
. . . |_
. . . . Manufacturer(Subdivision's Child) means leaf node.
when you will select data in main table you will be able to select only manufacturer.

Thanks a lot Alok for replying.
I tried doing what u said.
But if i have only one field in my hierarchy table (name), then what do i do in the 'Map Fields/Values' step?
I have only one field in the destination (Name), and three fields in the source (Division, subdivision and Manufacturer).
If i have to load the values of the other two then i must map it to something.

Gaurav
Gaurav,
Let me explain in more details,
1. Make one table Division in Repository type Hierarchy, Name field will come by default as DF, you need not to do any thing more here.
2. Reference this Division table to Main table field of type hierarchy.
3. Go to data manager, in hierarchy mode, select Division table and add Subdivision as child of Division and Manufacturer as child of Subdivision.
4. Make an excel sheet with one coloumn Division. Ex:
Division(Coloumn Heading)
Subdivision;Manufacturer(as data or value).
5. Now come to import manager a and select this excel as source. Select Source and target in IM.
6. Right click on Division field in source sheet and go to Set split delimiter>split hierarchy>give semicolon as split delimiter.
7. Again right click on Division field in source and select split into hierarchy. One new field will come under Division with proper hierachy.
8. Map this field with target hierachy and now do value mapping.
9. You can import the data if everything is fine.
using Name field you can achieve you goal.
Hierarchy does not mean having 3 records in hierarchy table. its a categorization of different types of products, materials, etc..

Hi,
Every table (Either Main table or subtable) have atleast one Display field, its purpose is just to fetch data and put into MDM data Manager which checks for constitency of data on the basis of your Display Field.
You have three fields Division ,subdivision, and Manufacturer. now here you can send data by map one field which need to be map with your Destination display field on the basis of which you are sending data.
I dnt know abt your Source file, if it contains multiple records then you shud go by above document but if you have three source fields exist independently (mean these three fields sepertly having three columns) then here firstly you have to use Partioning Concept and then on the basis of Partioning eg if you do this for say Division then map your source field say Division with target destination field by selecting hierarchy table as your current destination table.
Hope it will Help you,
Thanks,
