Hi,
Can somene share their expereince in using SAP MDM in a Retail Environment? Does Retail ERP have functionality equivalent to MDM? If there is a Corporate MDM solution, how is that integrated into ERP Retail?
Hi Subha,
Simona is absolutely right! Just to add to her note:
SAP-MDM is a master data management tool, and it is agnostic of the organization or subject area that you use it for. You can use it for subject areas such as Product master data, Customer, Vendor, Supplier, Raw Materials etc; similary SAP-MDM can be used for your planning master data or retail master data or marketing master data, you name it.
SAP-MDM comes out of the box with a UI, and configurable repository. So, you do not have to build UI, and all the work involved is config. SAP_MDM can import XML, and export out into XML, and hence makes it easy for any ETL tool to consume. For retail, SAP-MDM comes with an out-of-box Retail master data repository. You may choose to use it if it meets your requirements, or choose to build your own.
Finally, since retail ERP and MDM are both SAP systems, you could potentially use out-of-box integration if both models are used in plain vanilla.
As for SAP retail ERP, from my understanding it is analogous to SAP R/3 or ECC 6.0 on the wholesale front. So, Article Master module of retailERP could be analogous to Material Master module of R/3. My understanding is that MM module of R/3 is NOT for master data management of materials' data
I hope this helps...
