Hi,
I require some advice please.
I have a DEV & QAS system that share a partition. I am upgrading the OS to V5R4M5 and patching DEV at the same time. However I can only patch the QAS system the weekend after. Since I am upgrading the OS I need advice as to whether I should patch the QAS kernel when I patch DEV since the operating system will now be at a higher level or rather leave QAS on the old kernel and update the kernel when I do the QAS patches the following weekend.
Thank-you
Anette
Hi Volker,
I was patching everything at once because this is the first opportunity I have been presented since the project has been working day and night.
Thank-you for your reply.

Hi Anette,
sorry, but I do not understand the problem ?
First of all: Why do you need to patch the kernel at exactly the OS Upgrade weekend ? I would do it beforehand ...
Then: A kernel switch takes about 10 minutes ... where is the problem doing this at one weekend ?
Last: If you do not have a kernel with patch levels around 50 or so, it is compliant for 5.4.5 anyway - you can see that in SM51 -> Release info (they ONLY show you V5R4, as SAP doesn't see 5.4.5 as different)
=> in 99% there is no kernel patch just because of the OS Upgrade necessary anyway ...
