I don't think SFTP (FTP using SSH) is an available option for File Adapter. We can have FTPs file adapter with FTP protocol , but that is FTP using SSL and not SFTP.
For enabling SFTP - both the Receiver and the Sender need to be SFTP enabled to exchange SSH key (as this is FTP under SSH authentication provided by Microsoft). If you want to establish an SFTP communication using XI - you might use File System protocol to create the file in a designated folder and there a custom script can be used to put the file in the SFTP server (traget) under User Authentication.
Can you please give us more information about the specific requirements of your scenario?
