Hi,

Sorry to say that the only fully correct is the first one from Kaushal Malavia

  • You must follow the SAP documentation (Kaushal indicated the location)

  • You must check ALL the notes mentioned in the upgrade guide.

If you do so, then you do not "need" to do anything else.

> Please upgrade the SAP kernel to 221 EXT2(which is the latest) before the oracle upgrade.

This is not needed, it is more, you cannot upgrade to EXT2 before the upgrade, you can upgrade the kernel after the upgrade as the kernel EXT2 is not supported with Oracle 9i (look at the note 407314)

> Please check in the note and be careful while selecting the cpu patch as we have faced issues in AIX

If you take a look at the upgrade guide and the related notes, you will see that, at least for 10.2.0.2, there is a long time since SAP has released a CPU. From SAP note 871096:

The following Oracle CPUs for Oracle Release 10.2.0.2 are currently released for SAP:

CPU patches July 2007 : SAP Note 1076362

CPU patches October 2007 : SAP Note 1107601

...

If a conflict arises between a CPU patch and another mandatory individual patch, you must decide which patch you will install. If you are unsure, the functional patch should take priority over the CPU patch.

Please check the notes about the patches that you must install with 10202 or 10204 and install all relevant patches.

Hi Venkat,

Please upgrade the SAP kernel to 221 EXT2(which is the latest) before the oracle upgrade.

Please check in the note and be careful while selecting the cpu patch as we have faced issues in AIX.

Dear Venkat,

Standard upgrade from Oracle 9.2.0.4 or later to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) using the Oracle Database Upgrade Assistant (DBUA).

see the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) upgrade documentation at:

www.oracle.com/technology/documentation

Select the appropriate documentation for Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2)

Checking Hardware and Software Requirements:

1. Note the following general hardware requirements:

-> At least 1024 MB of physical RAM

-> About 500 MB free space in the /tmp directory

-> Between 2 GB and 3.5 GB of disk space for the Oracle software

2. Check that your operating system meets the software requirements for running the new Oracle

release, including all required patches.

You can get the full and updated list of hardware and software requirements from the relevant Oracle database installation guide for your operating system, which you can find at one of the following: www.oracle.com/technology/documentation

And also get the recommended shell limits and kernel parameters from the relevant Oracle database installation guide for your operating system, which you can find at: www.oracle.com/technology/documentation

Note;SAP certifies Oracle 10.2 only from release 10.2.0.2. SAP does not certify nor support Oracle 10.2.0.1

Media:

1. RDBMS DVD's

2. RDBMS Patchset(10.2.0.2)

2.Get the latest version of the Oracle 10.2 Instant Client software from SAP Service Marketplace at:

service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain

3. Get the latest version of the DBATOOLS (BR*Tools) Release 7.00 to be used immediately after the database upgrade from SAP Service Marketplace at: service.sap.com/swdc

4.Get the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) software and the latest patch sets and required patches. The list of one-off patches is described in SAP Note 871096. You can download the patches from SAP Service Marketplace at:

service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain

Please download the oracle 10g upgrade guide in service.sap.com/instguides for clear procedure to upgrade.

Please let me know if you need any information.

Thanks
