Change servers without reinstalling; keep same volume groups and files

Can I install ERP 6.0 on HP-UX on one server and then can I move the vgs from one server node to another server without having to reinstall SAP?

If I have all of my executable and files on the SAN, can I reallocate those vgs to another server node so I don not have to reinstall anything...?

Thanks

Mikie

Just one more remark: as Markus said, if possible in any way, keep the hostname. If you have to change it, it is still possible, but you will have to correct the hostname in a couple of places. For example the .dbenv_<hostname>.csh, the profiles, transactions RZ04, RZ10, RZ12, SMLG, SPAD, adapt the tnsnames.ora/ listener.ora (if you have oracle)

In either case you might have the do this on the new box as well:

- create the sidadm, orasid, as they are local, maybe /home/sidadm is a local directory too

- /etc/oratab and /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc

- /etc/hosts and /etc/services

- new sap license key

Michael

Yes, i have personally done this using a netapp SAN and solaris machines.

SAP boots fine on the new servers, so long as the environment settings are fine.

Yes - this is technically possible. You need, however, make sure, the servers have the same (virtual) hostname.
