Dear all
I still confuse with Logical System in ALE where we already have Client.
And I see that relationship between Client and Logical System is 1:1
So why we need Logical System instead just use Client ?
Regards,
Halomoan
All the documents created in the same client have the same logical system. This is done automatically. Once you have assigned a logical system name to a client, you should not change it. So, the answer is no.
You decide the destination of course!!

I think this is what you want to read:
A logical system is an unique identifier of a system/client combination.
That is why SAP recommends to use the notation <SID>CLNT<CLT> to set the logical system. For example, assume you have client 400 for system QA1 and you have client 400 for system DV1. Then the logical system name would be:
for QA1/400: QA1CLNT400
for DV1/400: DV1CLNT400
The logical system is used in the IDOCS that you transmit from one system to the other. So with this, you know the source system of the IDOC, and this tells you where the business document was created.
Using only the client as identifier is not enough, because you can have the same client number in several systems.
Nevertheless, you should read the documentation!!

Juan

Hi Halomoan Zhou,
In distributed environment to identify sapsytem the logical system is used. For Ex you have PRD, QTY and DEV all this system are having client # 001. Using logical system, system will identify to which system it hase to speak or listion if it is PRDCLNT001 it speaks with PRD like wise.

to add on:
You can to do it in transaction SPRO
SPRO > click 'SAP Reference IMG' button
> Basis Components
> Application Link Enabling (ALE)
> Sending and Receiving Systems
> Logical Systems
> Define Logical Systems
once that you have created the new Logical System, you can assign it to the client using transaction SCC4
In general, the logical system is relevant in the following areas:
1. Communication between two or more logical systems
2. ALE business process
3. Business Object Repository
cheers,
Vincent
