Hi,
I ran into this problem once and the reason was case-sensitivity of the 000/DDIC password. You are migrating from a version with Basis 6.x (passwords not case-sensitive) to a Basis 7.x (passwords case-sensitive) and I know that PREPARE sometimes chokes on this. The trick is to type the DDIC password in PREPARE strictly in UPPER case (or, as you did, to only use digits).
Regards,
Mark

Unlock the DDIC password and try it. It will work and also check the license.

Hello,
4 ETQ239 Logging off from SAP system
2EETQ217 Reading UVERS entry via RFC failed
It seems that the upgrade is stopped because the password for user DDIC
cannot be recognized. In order to solve the incidence please set again
the password for user DDIC by executing the following command from the
\usr\sap\put\bin directory:
SAPup set DDICpwd
Take into account that the password is case-sensitive.
After that you should be able to continue with the upgrade.

John Feely

This may not be a very "professional" comment...
Dude, if you run into this problem, definitely try the number idea for the password first - it will save you a ton of time.

I don t believe it !!!
I solved my problem by changing the DDIC password to digits... no letters are allowed...!!!
Did I miss something in the manual??
The password was correct from the begining, but wrong since no letter are allowed....
Still dont believe it.... mmmmmhhhhh

Hello everybody,
I am upgrading our SCM 5.0 to SCM 5.1 and got the same error.
As background, ddic has a correct password, and it is not locked. RFC connections seem to be ok. This is also what the log files tell: login succeded !

further, RFCCHK_INI.LOG.SAV tells basically the same as RFCCHK_INI.LOG, but there is something I do not understand here...

Select one of the installed languages...?????
So I do not think it has to do with RFC errors nor with login by DDIC. Something I found out is that a
SAPLicense.out log file is written... and here I found following:
Read installation number for SAP SYSTEM: Sid
INSTALLATION NO = INITIAL
Since this system is on NW 2004s, the SAPLicense has to e entered with Transaction slicense and is not accepted on line command (program SAPLICENSE) saying that "it contains a digitally signed license" and therefore has to be installed in SAP. I deleted the "Old license" and have the permanent license installed.
To make it even worst, there is a Connect.log file, which says that this phase was "RFCCHK_INI completed sucessfully"

My guess is that the problem has to do with License, An old OSS note onR3 3.0 had the same symptoms...
ANY Ideas? oH yes, our DB is DB2 on Windows 2003 64Bit
Thanks for your fast answer

Hi shashi,
Please set the same password for user DDIC in the PRD system and in the SAPup with command "./SAPup set ddicpwd" from /usr/sap/put/bin directory.
Please also check in SM59 the RFC to your system via 'authorization test' and ensure that this connection is properly configured.
After that ,Could you restart PREPARE from scratch (in an empty directory) and be sure that you indicate the current password for DDIC (client 000).
All the best. Defenitely it will resolve your issue.
Thanks
Kishore

first user and/or password was wrong...then the user (ddic in client 000) was locked...you'll have to unlock user ddic and repeat the phase...
