bad performance on SAP Netweaver 7.1 CE

Hello together!

Ugly ugly u2013 we have a fresh installation of a SAP Netweaver 7.1 CE with one INTEL XEON 3,6Ghz and 3 GB RAM.

But the performance is more than bad u2013 that means you make one click and you have to wait approx. 10-15 seconds.

I tried to check out some performance parameters but I do not really find something to improve the performance.

Of course with one CPU you can not expect a good performance but from my subjective feeling the performance is more than bad.

Can anybody help me or have an idea which parameters can be changed?

Thanks a lot!!

Best regards

Thomas

How I can improve the perfomance?

Hi Thomas,

How many nodes do you have, and what is your max heap per node? What is your setting for the perm memory space?

Hi Matt!

I would say we have one node (per default installation) server00.

Memory VM Parameter u2013

maxHeapSize is 512MB,

maxPermSize = trunc(450 max (($*0.2) min 1024)) that means 491MB

I assume that the AMOUNT_MEMORY will be detected automaticlly.

Total RAM of Server 3 GB and the Database has fixed memory amount of 1228 MB.

Pagefile of server is approx 11264 MB fixed, it is a x64 Windows server.

Hi Thomas,

Here are some settings you can try to see if they help.

Total memory = 3072 MB

Memory for CE (0.8 - AMOUNT MEMORY) = 2457 MB

Perm memory = 491

1 node

Max heap/node = 1229 MB

DB memory = 1075

Although I think one of your biggest issues is one CPU (is it dual core?).

Hi Matt!

Thank you very much! I will implement them for testing.

I think so too, the cpu is also one big problem.

The cpu is not a dual core.

Hi Matt!

Good advise - i changed max/heapsize and the DB memory. The performance is better!!

Please one more question:

Is it general thumbrule

80% of total amount of memory for Java Instance (initial/HeapSize)

50 % per node of initial/HeapSize

and 35% for DB Instance of total memory?

Thank you!

Hi Thomas,

I have information about the formulas our zero admin templates that can be used for memory settings. I am not at liberty to post them here, and they can also change. Let's just say that your rule of thumb is ok for a starting point, but factors can make it more complex than that.
