V5R3 to V5R4 database file conversion

Hello Group,

I must soon upgrade all of our SAP iSeries systems from V5R3 to V5R4M5. In the IBM "Memorandum to Users" for V5R4 it states that database file objects will be converted on first touch after the upgrade and this could cause a slowdown for active systems. It recommends either doing a DSPLIB or DSPOBJD command against the database libraries to do this conversion upfront.

However in OSS note 444524, it states that one should always execute command STROBJCVN LIB(R3<SID>DATA) OBJTYPE(*FILE). My question is which one of these do I actually need to do after the upgrade? Are they doing the same thing?

Also if anyone has any lessons learned in migrating from V5R3 to V5R4, I would appreciate hearing them.

Best regards,

Russ Cook

Hi Russ,

it is not really needed, but I would suggest, doing that.

Why ?

- it doesn't take long

- Because, otherwise, there might be some conversions "on first touch" where it is not the issue, that it is taking long - it would be fast - but because of locking, it could result in a dead lock ;-((

Hi Russ,

I had finished migration From V5R2 to V5R4..There is no requirement to change the Database Files (R3<SID>DATA).

Kindly upgrade your existing kernal to Latest level(V5R4 supported kernal)..

Thanks

Jibin.
