Hi,
Can anybody explain to me the concept behind oracle next extents and the Autoextend concept. I know new oracle releases have locally manged tablespaces where management becomes easier for the dba's and basis guys but I want to know the general concepts about the topics i just mentioned.
Thanks in advance.
Cyrus
Hi Cyrus,
LMTS (Locally managed tablespace) were initially introduced in Oracle 8i but became used by default in Oracle 9.2. The advantage is that extents size for allocation is calculated automatically and, thus, you don't need to do tables reorganization as frequesntly as in dictionary managed tablespaces. Please check OSS note 214995 for more information on the topic,
Regards,
Mike
