Serial Number in Delivery

Can anyone advise why SAP allows the same serial number for the same part to be issued twice to different delivery?

I thot the serial number is unique to each part number and shd not be reusable. Pls correct if my understanding is wrong.

Hello Peter,

As far as i know serial number is unique for each line item.Suppose a material is used 10 times in a delivery then each line item will have different serial number as it is generated automatically from the system.

The system should not allow the same. Once you do the PGI of the delivery the serial number status will be ECUS, so you should not be allowed to use the same material and serial number combinations in another delivery.

Check the status of the Serial number in IQ03, is it AVLB?
