What is the difference between Article Hierarchy and Product Hierarchy?
In SAP Retail, merchandise category hierarchy is oriented towards the purchasing viewpoints; on the contrary, article hierarchy will focus on sales viewpoints. If that is the case the product hierarchy is just redundant, I cant see the use of it.
Thanks,

Hi VT,
the merchandise category is more or less a fixed assignment to a group of articles.
Thr product hierarchy, normaly not used in retail, is a sales depending assignment also used in evaluation or invoice.
It comes from standard ERP functioanlity is more or less strict.
The article hierarchy is very new and available for ERP retail only. It will give you a global or distribution chain depending view on your assortment.
It will be used in assortment planning and evaluation processes (BI)
It can be time dependant.
And offers a lot of additional features.
We recommend to use the aricle hierarchy without time dependency
