SP15 installation hangs at offline deployment

I´m trying to upgrade my developer workbench from SP10 to SP15 and the sapinst hangs at step 12, that is J2EE Engine Server Core. Status bar shows "Processing..." and the last entry in the log is:

While the "Processing..." info is shown, there is neither CPU usage nor any file system activity for at least 40 minutes.

What is the problem?

If someone else runs into the same problem:

the trouble was caused by a full database.
