Hi,

I think you are not able to start SAPINST GUI , is it rite?

If that is the case: please follow below things to make SAPINST works:

1. Include the java environment variable in PATH environment variable and also with /bin and /jre directory means <javapath>/bin and <javapath>/jre .

2. check whether xmanager is installed or not, if installed set the DISPLAY variable. Give the DISPLAY variable as <IP address>:1.0 or 0.1 or 2.0 or 0.2, if still its not working put <IP address>:0.0

3. Be in root, means : root> cd

afterwards, root> ls -lart

then you can find .Xauthority file, please copy that to your home directory of <sid>adm.

means logon with sidadm and do pwd, you can get the home directory of sidadm, like /home/<sid>adm

copy means : from root > cp .Xauthority /home/sidadm/ ( check home directory)

Then set the DISPLAY variable and then check whether it is working or not using /usr/openwin/bin/xclock

4.And also check ulimit -a, if all are in unlimited then fine.

Please do all the above steps and let me know if still issue persists.

Thanks

Hi,

I have already entered the java envirmonemnt variable.

I am still not able to run SAPINST

i have created a directory for SAPINST and copied the files to sapinst and tried to run but no success.

Host >cd /INST/SAPINST/UNIX/HP11_64/INSTALL

/sbin/sh: /inst/SAPINST/UNIX/HP11_64/INSTALL: The specified path name is not a directory.

Hi,

Dont use that path: Host >cd /INST/SAPINST/UNIX/HP11_64/INSTALL, why you are using INSTALL under HP11_64,

You can find sapinst under HP11_64. use that, you will get sapinst, if not send me the error.

I will look into that.

Thanks

It seems you are installing from an OLD CD set - not using sapinst but R3setup - this must be called

./R3SETUP -f CENTRAL.R3S for the central instance and

./R3SETUP -f DATABASE.R3S for the database instance

I HIGHLY suggest you download a new installation CD/DVD set from the service marketplace, the version you seem to use is ancient!

This is the directory.

It seems that the system did only copy the files with CAPITAL letters, not all files. sapinst is written in lower case letters.

Try to mount the CD and try to find the lower case "sapinst" there.

You have quite a number of different problems on your box. Somehow the users don't have the correct home directories, your environment is not set correctly and other things. Your machine seems to be a bit "hosed"

It's very difficult to help you without system access. As you can see you get the first error when you login as ora<SID>, before this error is not corrected all further tries of continuing will be pointless.

First let's check the user ora<SID>:

try

grep ora<SID> /etc/passwd

check if the user was created and if the user has a valid home directory, write permissions for it and a valid shell.

Markus

Former Member
0 Kudos

YES, they are there

ora<SID>:lBd4K25xv0mgs:3305:201:SAP Database Administrator:/home/ora<SID>:/usr/bin/sh

What should i do in the next step

markus_doehr2

Did you create them manually before the installation? Is the directory /home/ora<sid> existing and does it have the "dot-files" for the environment?

login as ora<SID>

ls -lisa

The directory was created before installation and it has . . files.

Can i set the ORACLE_HOME

thanks

markus_doehr2

All variables are usually set by sapinst, there's no need to set them manually.

I saw you used "setenv" to set environments (DISPLAY) - that is for csh - but you use /usr/bin/sh. I'd try to change the default shell of ora<sid> to use /bin/csh, logout and login with that user and see if ORACLE_HOME is set. If not, then I would suggest to start from scratch because something went wrong during the installation...

Markus

Yes,Now i tried to run

After logging to ORA<SID>

$ cd /oracle/stage/920_64/Disk1/SAP

su: /oracle/stage/920_64/Disk1/SAP: Permission denied.

permissions of /oracle is 775.

Sorry for troubling , ple help

Did you do

su - ora<sid>

or just

su ora<sid>

It's VERY important, that you use the first one, otherwise the new environment will not set. If you're logged in check first if the environment is set:

echo $ORACLE_HOME

echo $ORACLE_SID

Then try as root

cd /oracle/stage
chown -R ora<SID>:dba 920_64

Markus

Former Member
0 Kudos

I did as su - ora<sid>

Logged in as ORASID

I have set ORACLE_HOME, and ORACLE_SID

chown -R ora<SID>:dba 920_64

But when i run again ./RUNSINSTALLER

i get environment variable ORACLE_SID not set.

markus_doehr2
Active Contributor
0 Kudos

Again (I repeat):

it is NOT necessary to set those environments manually - they are usually set by sapinst and the "dot-files" - that's why I asked you do to an

ls -lisa

in the home directory of ora<sid> to check if the files are there.

Markus

Former Member

It seems, that the dot-files are not taken into account... are you running a high security system? Usually - at that point of installation and after logging in the prompt for the csh looks like

<hostname:user>

and not just

$

Something is wrong with your environment but manually setting it won't solve the problem. I'd check with your sysadmin why the dot-files are not executed during login.

It's suggested to install the LATEST patchset available + the LATEST patches for that patchset.

Check the central note 938986 - Oracle Database 9.2: Patches for 9.2.0

I would suggest you install 9.2.0.8 + all the 22 patches listed in the above note.

BTW: Oracle 9.2 runs TODAY out of standard maintenance...

Thanks for the suggestion,

As per your suggestion i am installing 9.2.0.8+patches.

When i went to service .sap.com , i could see 16patchset not 22 patchs set level.

As this are in zip files , can i unzip in the windows and copy the files in the unix at the oracle directory and install the ORacle 9.2.0.8 and the 16 patches.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

yes - the other 6 are "Generic" patches (read the note!!) - they are in the "generic" patch directory.

I have downloaded the patches and used the cat command to combine the aa.bin and ab.bin file. To unzip as i could n't find the unzip command at the unix level i have copied the file on the my PC and unzipped and put it back on the unix system.

now i have run ./runInstaller,it says permission denied

this is the error message.

I have checked the permission and changed to 777 and 775 and also changed the chown to ora<SID> :dba .
