Hi Chavva,
MDM as we know stands for Master Data Management.
It is a known truth that MDM is the hot topic and most valuable platform in the market.
Here we basically deal with the Master Data i.e. master data is taken from various systems that a Business have and then steps are taken to make the Master data non-redundant inorder to maintain data consistency and data quality.
There are three basic scenarios that we follow in MDM:
Data Consolidation
Data Harmonization
Central Master Data Management
Consolidation :
1. Cleansing and de-duplication
2. Data normalization including categorization and taxonomy management
3. New interactive consolidation capabilities
Data Harmonization :
1. Automated synchronization of globally relevant master data information
2. New Interactive distribution capabilities
Central Master Data Management :
1. Central creation and maintenance of data
2. Ongoing master data quality

MDM stands for Master Data management where we take data from various source systems and clean and consildate it.
Then we harmonize ( export) the data back to the repective systems.Hence so many systems are involved in these projects/scenarios,
SAP BI is an analytical tool from which you can generate reports.
And the reports should be very precise and correct and it relies heavily on correct and consistent Master Data. Soon you will also find a combination of Bi-MDM being used in many scenarios. Hence your prior knowledge can also be used along with MDM.

Hi Ramesh,
It is an good decision you have taken to start learning MDM.
You can go through all the above posts to learn MDM.
Just before you start up you need to know that SAP MDM is a SAP developed tool to manage your master data is an effective way.
It is a configuration driven tool which is absed on C++.so it is very easy to learn and does not require any prerequisties for it so it does not matter from whicf field you have come from.
One very important thing to note here is that this tool is still noy reached its steady state and is developing at every stage with a newer version coming every few months.
However SAP has planned to come out with SAP MDM vs7.1 very soon which is going to be very stable and most of its drawbacks completely eliminated.
Once this tool gains control it will rule the market as .
Data drives Business and SAP MDM drives Data.
As you must be knowing that BI is basically used for reporting purposes. Hence it would be the best if BI reports are acccurate and precise.
Hence There is one scenario that you can focus on at the beginning. This is the Bi-MDM integration scneario. As MDM is used for considating, it identifies duplicates and helps Bi in generating accurate and Consolidated reports.
