configuration CMS

Hi all

i have some questions regarding CMS

i have to implement CMS to transfer design object and configuration object to PRD from DEV.

my XI environment;

DEV BOX, PRD BOX, SLD BOX, JDI(CMS) BOX. we have total 4 BOX.

according to help.sap.com,

"You enter the server addresses for a maximum of three different Integration Repositories or Integration Directories: one for development (DEV, mandatory), one for consolidation (CONS, mandatory), and one for the productive environment (PROD, optional). Enter a URL with the following structure: http://<server>:<port>/rep/ or http://<server>:<port>/dir/.";

is CONS BOX mandatory to implement CMS? We are not going to have CONS box.

while following installation JDI,

step3a: Prepare the System Landscape Directory,

i have central sld as i mentioned, where do i work on?

SLD on JDI server, or my existing Central SLD?

and Step Register the SLD Server in the SLD

I do not understand because of two SLD, i am not clear this step.

what is that mean? which SLDs for two sld?

Thank You in advance.
