When do we use ODS and Infoset for Reporting?

Hello,

I have been using infocubes for reporting only.

I wonder when are these useful to be used for reporting. Any practical example? (I understand ODS is for 'atomic' level of details. But no idea what that means. Infocube data not 'atomic'? Is it not a relative term?)

Would appreciate your hints.

Best regards,

hi,

ods normaly stored data in detail level ('atomic') -> document/transaction number and item; material number. e.g you have sales summary report from infocube with amount $ xx for customer X, and you want to know from which sales orders this amount comes, then you may go detail to ods. or you need to know which material number contribute this amount.

infoset is built with join of transparent tables (like 'view'), may join of ods table with another ods tables or with master data tables.

hope this give some hints.
