Hi Karthik,

MDM is Master Data Management.

For comapnies maintaining distributed IT landscapes, accurate and consistent master data is crucial for business success.Companies often end up storing duplicate master data across differnt systems and in different geographic locations leading to redundancies and inconsistencies of data.

To find and handle the mismanagement of data,SAP introduced

MDM which store, augment and consolidate master data ensuring consistent distribution of master data to all the applications and systems.

It has got 4 major components

Console-Administration is done using this

Import Manager-To import the data into MDM system from various sources

Data Manager-deduplication and cleansing of data

Syndicator-Export the cleansed data to other systems

Please refer to the following links for various Scnarios(IT/Business) and an overview

Hi karthikan,

MDM being more of stretagic implimentation along with tool understanding, i would like to share some relavent infmrtion on it.

To make it little clear i''d liek to share something about Data and MDM.Data is the food for any system to run and master data is the heart of that system.Master data is that crucial information on which all your business process run.If your master data is not in proper shape the analytics run on them will be incorrect as a result the business decisions taken will be wrong and this will result in a complete failure of your business.

There are many ERP systems existing today but very few provide an effective, systematic and fool proof method to preserve a single version of truth odf your master data.

SAP MDM address this problem and so is here today to bring all your master data under one roof.

So,in general, benefits of keeping Master data in 1 place is

Conformance/Auditing

Single view of customer

Global data synchronization efforts

Accurate reporting

Consolidation after mergers and acquisitions

Reduced effort to consolidate information

Reduced cleansing/mapping of information

Increased efficiency

Reduced costs overall.

MDM and it Components :

First the Core of the DATABASE of MDM is the SQL SERVER .

On the SQL SERVER the MDM SERVER sits.

On the MDM SERVER its Components Like IMPORT MANAGER , CONSOLE , DATA MANAGER , SYNDICATOR sits.

SQL SERVER --> MDM SERVER --> IMPORT MANAGER , CONSOLE , DATA MANAGER , SYNDICATOR .

This is the basic idea of MDM Architecture and its Components .

awards points if useful.
