Check Division and Item Division

Hi all,

Is there any similarity in function between Check Division and Item Division in Sales document?

Hi Ajit

First, it should be clear about what is "Header division " and "Item division".

Header division

In the create order screen , we enter a order type e.g. OR and our Sales area.

Suppose our Sales area is 1000/10/00, then this sales is copied to the header data and called as Header sales area also.

The division here is called "Header division".

Here ,header division is "00".

Item division

Any material is uniquely belong to only one "Division",which we maintain in the material master in the "Basic data 1".

This is called "Item division".

When you create a sales document ,system searches this item division and copies it to the sales document,which you find in the item detail.

Now,coming to your question.

In the , Sales document type, you have these two check boxes, "Check division" and "Item division".

If the Item division field is not activated ,then system will not search the material master to which division the material belongs to. In this case the header division is copied to each item.

So while you process various related errors will come.

The check division field controls how the system will behave if the header division & Item division are different.

Dear Ajit

Yes there is a difference.

If you select Check division, while creating sale order, if the division what you entered in the initial screen of sale order is different from the item that you entered, you wont be able to save the sale order.

If you select Item division, the system proposes the division from the material master record of the item. If you leave the field blank, the division in the document header also counts for all items.

This message will give the SAP sytem when the sales order have different divisions in the header level and item level

Check Division -->Header level division(Which you enter in the initial screen of the order creation VA01)

Item Division --> Item level division

Hi Ajit,

if u check CHECK DIVISION field, then whenever u r entering VA01 screen,without giving ur division, u cannot go inside the sales order screen.if u donot check this field u can enter into sales order screen by just giving sales org and distribution channel.

if u check Item division field, then system takes the division from item that means from material master when u r entering sales order.If u donot check this field, system will take the header division into account when entering sales order.
