File system sizing for liveCache (SCM system)

Former Member

We are configuring disk partitions in order to install a SCM system.

I'd like to find some documentation about typical liveCache directories and sizes, similar to this list:

******************

liveCache data volumes <drive>:\sapdb\<SAPSID>\sapdata\...

liveCache database log volumes <drive>:\sapdb\<SAPSID>\saplog\...

liveCache mirrored database log volumes <drive>:\sapdb\<SAPSID>

liveCache instance-independent data <drive>:\sapdb\data

**************

Including typical installation sizes, and any security suggestions (such as having database log volumes not on same RAID as database data volumes).

I downloaded SAP SCM 5.1 Standalone Engine, SAP liveCache Technology 7.7: Windows, and I found some information in chapter 7 (MSCS cluster), but not on chapter 3.2 Checking liveCache File Systems

Thanks very much !!

Eva

Hello Eva,

"typical liveCache directories and sizes" for the data and log volumes could not be done. It's dependent of the amount of the liveCache application data are going to have on your system.

As SAP customer => you have the option to create the OSS ticket to the component SV-BO-SCM for the best recommendations of the sizing on your system.

1. See the information at service.sap.com/scm -> Technology

=> Documents "Sizing Guideline overview" & "liveCache overview"

&& https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/livecache

< It has also link to Best Practices for Solution Management: mySAP SCM (SMP login required) >

See documents at service.sap.com/scm -> Best Practices for Solution Management: SAP SCM

2. Go at link service.sap.com/quicksizer referenced in document "Sizing Guideline overview"

3. Simple estimation for small TEST system:

-> liveCache data volumes <drive>:sapdb<SAPSID>sapdata... => 4GB

Are you planning to have all datavolumes in one location?

After you will run the liveCache sizing procedure you will get the estimation of the data area size & you could add the data volume later.

See SAP note :: 1173395 FAQ: MaxDB configuration

-> liveCache database log volumes <drive>:sapdb<SAPSID>saplog... => 2GB

liveCache mirrored database log volumes <drive>:sapdb<SAPSID> => 2GB

See SAP note :: 869267 FAQ: MaxDB LOG area

-> liveCache instance-independent data <drive>:sapdbdata => 2GB

the directory where the database configuration and log files are written.

There are also the database parameters with the values of the size for the

database log/trace files. In case the additional space needed for the database traces, you could redirect them to another location.
