Hi Priya,

Is there any difference between GDS console and MDM Console?

To answer this question first, YES: GDS concole and MDM console are different not only in the Versions/Server Build Releases but also from the application perspective.

Primely, MDM Component and GDS - MDM components are different as GDS Console runs on Java Web Application Server.Secondly, Standard Business Content Repository of GDS closely follows the Global Standards - 1 (GS1 Compliance). GDS offers solution to meet registration criterin according to Global Standard (You could refer to it at www.gs1.org - which is a non-profit organization)

Finally, GDS differs with respect to MDM in it's Data Importing mechanism AS MDM - GDS HAS no mechanism of Importing Data by Import Manager and Sending by Syndicator -- Instead, it follows, Java Proxy (In JPR) code path for fetching (from , Say, ECC) as well as Sendig data to Data Pool.

How to guides to GDS Console/ GDS Installation and GDS Connectivity to PI etc is available at Service Marketplace. (Seeking mail ID for sending such doc is barred by SDN Forum according to recent code of conduct)

I am sure this would help you.

Hi Priya

To answer your question - In which scenario GDS comes into picture?

I'd say, along with exchange of trade item data with your retail partners using the Transora and UCCnet data pools.the Global Data Synchronization (GDS) business scenario is the prerequisite for efficiently handling the ordering, shipping, and invoicing processes. GDS is also beneficial if you have any processes related to radio frequency identification (RFID).

This business scenario allows you to:

Prevent errors when communicating with trading partners

Reduce the number of incorrect invoices

Decrease the time needed to introduce new products

Minimize the manual effort needed to change orders

Process information and requests from trading partners that are communicated through the data pool

To answer - How would you Integrate GDS with MDM?

I am sure you'd be aware that , there are TWO separate components of MDM- GDS (Whcih is diff than MDM Console/Importmanager/Syndicator/Datamanager). IN your scenario, I m assuming YOU ARE REFERING ABOUT CONNECTIVITY OF "MDM-GDS" WITH OTHER COMPONENTS SUCH AS PI etc! - For that, you need integration done thru JAVA proxy in JPR ( you could download the Integration Guide from Service.sap.com)

To Answer- Can any send me configuration steps in GDS?

This is explained in detail inthe document available at service.sap.com ! However, steps for the process flow are as mentioned below:

1. Choose action (GDS Console)

You can register trade items with a trading partner or publish trade items to a trading partner.

2. Determine list of GTINs (GDS Console)

You use various search criteria to create a list of the trade items (GTINs) you want to send to the data pool.

3. Validate trade items (GDS Console)

Before you send the register or publish command to the data pool from GDS Console in the form of a message, you can validate the trade items to ensure they meet the data pool requirements.

When you register trade items, the GDS Console automatically validates these trade items before it sends them to the data pool.

4. System maps XML format of GDS Console to XML format of data pool (XI Exchange Infrastructure)

SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) maps the data from the SAP-internal XML format to the data pool-specific XML format.

5. System converts message to AS2 protocol (XI Exchange Infrastructure)

6. System validates registration data (Data Pool)

The data pool checks if the registration message complies with the data pool standards.

7. System stores registration (Data Pool)

8. System processes acknowledgement (GDS Console)

The GDS Console receives an acknowledgement from the data pool and processes it.

9. System sets synchronization status (GDS Console)

Depending on the acknowledgement received from the data pool, the GDS Console sets a synchronization status for the corresponding trade item(s).

10. Choose action (GDS Console)

After you have registered a trade item, you can change the trade item data or publish the trade item.

This process step applies only to trade items that are destined for one specific retailer. If the trade item is not restricted to one specific retailer, the publication process takes place automatically.

11. System maps XML format of GDS Console to XML format of data pool (XI Exchange Infrastructure)

SAP XI maps the data from the SAP-internal XML format to the data pool-specific XML format.

12. System converts message to AS2 protocol (XI Exchange Infrastructure)

13. System validates publication data (Data Pool)

The data pool checks if the publication message complies with the data pool standards.

14. System stores publication (Data Pool)

15. System processes acknowledgement (GDS Console)

The GDS Console receives an acknowledgement from the data pool and processes it.

16. System sets synchronization status (GDS Console)

Depending on the acknowledgement received from the data pool, the GDS Console sets a synchronization status for the corresponding trade item(s).

Just FYI : Component in the brackets shows where the requed step is to be done.

I am sure this would help you.

Hi Priya,

Difference between GDS Console and MDM Console is that GDS Console is an application that is fully implemented in Java.

MDM Server is installed on GDS Host. There the GDS repository is stored. The MDM Console allows us to make changes to the GDS Repository by adding or deleting fields.

For Materials of GDS, please check the links below:

Hope it will help you.
