hi ! all SAP Gurus,
What are Background jobs and how do we create it.As a functional consultant what am i expected to do on it.
regds,
smita
Dear Smita,
Background jobs are created thru SM36.
These jobs are processed in Background at Server level & any end-user would not realise it...
Also there are some heavy reports which could not be run thru normal process are run thru Background jobs...
As a functional consultant you might just have to create Background jobs & schedule the delivery of output to concerned users...
Hope this helps...
Reward if useful...
Thanks,
Jignesh Mehta

Hi Smita,
A background is nothing but a transaction or a document that gets generated immediately after creating, may be, a preivous document. For Ex: When you create a sales order, you can configure the system so that it can generate the delivery document immediately in the background. Hereyou do not get to see the delivery document creation, but you can see the delivery document created in the document flow.
As functional consultant, you should know which document/transaction can be carried out in the background.Like for ex, a delivery document, a transfer order, PGI etc..And you should know how to configure them in the IMG.
Hope this clears all your doubts..
Regards,
Raghav

Hi,
SAP background processing allows the automation of routine tasks and the optimization of the use of SAP computing resources. It provides you with extensive functions for scheduling and administering background jobs.
Using background processing, you tell the SAP System to run programs for you. Background processing lets you move long-running or resource-intensive program runs to times when the system load is low. It also lets you delegate to the system the task of running reports or programs. Transaction is SM36.
