Hi All,
I am a Certified ABAP consultant working on a 4.6b support project.
I want to simultaneously upgrade my self to XI.
What are the requirements?
Is the implementation knowledge of ALE & IDocs must?
I have conceptual knowledge of them.
I have knowledge of Visual Basic, do I need to learn JAVA?
Our company has provided a sandbox system of ECC 6.0.
Is this useful to work with X? Does it require separate server?
Please, advice me.
Thanks,
Kal Chand
Hi kal chand ,
XI is configuration like FILE 2 FILE , FILE 2 IDOC , FILE 2 JDBC , PROXY TO PROXY....
It takes the source message , converts into XML, sends it to target system.
U should be aware of ALE/IDOC concepts . If u know JAVA , good b'coz at certain times we can import JAVA functions to XI to meet certain requirements.
Knowledge of XML, XSLT, preferred.
XI is separate server.

Hi Kal Chand,
I too stand with same background, and now I have started working on XI projects, to be very honest we can manage XI requirement but not just saying its easy, if you have very strong Base Line of Middleware it will be really very helpful to make learn things faster.
I believe you need to go one by one scenerio's of XI trying to understand first architecture of XI and then work around with simple scenerios[File2File,File2Idoc,....]
Hope you have found lots of documents to go through XI.
If you need more go through these links also

Hi,
Its a good thought.....
you can go ahead and move your self towards XI with the knowledge you have on ABAP.
and Java knowledge is necessary for XI.so its better to gain some knowledge os JAVA.
and ALE IDOC knowledge is required.
in ECC 6 you may not be able to get full version of XI unless it is configured.....
