Hi bhargav..

You can extract Master s data from MDM in two ways..

1. BI 3.5 u have to use FTP(where MDM syndicator will syndicate master data into FTP and BI ll pick that data through ABAP programme)

2. BI7 can pull the data directly from MDM using ABAP APIs. u have to install compatable version of MDM_TECH in BI server.

Using standard Datasource u can pull data from MDM.

After the extraction of Data from MDM there is no difference in writing Queries in Bex.

Thanks & Regards,

Suman Karanam.

Hi Suman! Please, explain what is "BI7 can pull the data directly from MDM using ABAP APIs". What does it mean "directly"? Without using DataSource?

Hi all,

If you need to send data from MDM to BI then the best option would be to use PI.

You can syndicate the data from MDM and put in on the outbound of MDM. Now you can create interfaces in PI to send this data to BI.

The important thing you need to do is design your interfaces with proper mapping of fields.

Warm Regards,

Karan

You can export the data out of MDM in a Ready folder in a .CSV format in an Outbound Ready Folder. From there BI can pick up the data since that is a FTP enabled path, and then accordingly populate in BI.

Also for MDM SP05 and above, you can directly integrate MDM with BI using ABAP API's.

And regarding the generation of Reports:

MDM can identify duplicates and then assign them a Global ID. Hence you will have both the Local ID and the Global ID's available.

Hence according to the requirement, you can report both globally and locally.

Hi Bhargav,

You can direcly extract the data from data manager or syndicate the data from syndicator in MDM. This will generate a file for you. In BI, while uploading the data, you can mention your data source as this file and upload your data.

From data manager, go to file menu and choose, extract to (excel/Text/Access). Select the fileds, you want to extract and say ok.

From syndicator, you can make the destination items, map them to source fields and say syndicate.

For more info on taking extract from data manager and syndicator, you can refer to reference guides for respective components at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdmgds55/helpdata/EN/43/D7AED5058201B4E10000000A11466F/frameset.htm

Regarding report generation, the procedure is same in BW and BI 7.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Dheeraj.
