sapgui installation for stand-alone computers

i am currently learning sap. i have installed sapgui 6.20 in my home pc for practice. my pc has net connectivity. i cant log on to sap and it seems that i need to have an application server. so is it possible for me to use sapgui 6.20 without any such application server? or do i need to download any other versions..

Hello. Yes you need one of ABAP applicanion server on your PC, becose you need to learn and do not have any server, try to read the good blog :

Sapgui is the software that is used to connect to SAP application servers.

You have installed the presentation server (SAPGui) but you donot have the application server.

You can try out the SAP provided demo installables.
