SD Master - Common DC and Div

Can anyone advise what will main criteria (based on past implementation experiences) for determining if this configuration (common DC and Div) for master data setup shd be considered?

At the sametime, what's the impact if we switch this configuration on or off when master data are already being populated in the system.

Thanks

Peter

Adding to the above.....

If you do not maintain this combination...... after saving your billin document ( if you have CO-PA ) then master feilds from customer wont be copied into your Profitablility document.

Fields like = Sales district, customer group , sales office, sales group. ( wont be copied ).

Even though your sales area is copied.....so if you do not have constrain to maintain this combination its always suggestable to maintain the same dst chnl and same div as reference.

Hi Peter,

Common Distribution Channel & Division is basically use for to maintain Condition Record(Pricing) & Master Data (Customer / Material) for Single Sales Area +(i.e Sales Organization + Common Distribution Channel + Common Division)+ and which can you use for all the respective Sales Area in your company.

While creation of Common Distribution Channel / Division you have option to maintain it for two different levels i.e. Condition Record or Master Data (Customer / Material) or both, mostly company maintain Common Distribution Channel / Division only for Master Data (Customer / Material).

Hope we had answer your query.

Cheers !!!!

Hi,

Common Distribution Channel and Division concept is used in case if any of Customer is purchasing various products from your company in single sales order. So that at the time of processing sales transactions (for e.g. Sales order), system allows to enter products (FG) of different divisions for the Customer.

For e.g. You have following Sales Areas as

1000/10/00 - Common

1000/10/01 - Product 1

1000/10/02 - Product 2

1000/10/03 - Product 3, etc...

Here maintain Customer master for Sales Area 1000/10/00 and Products to sales areas 1000/10/01, 1000/10/02, 1000/10/03, etc... as per requirement.

So that at the time of entering Sales Order, Sales Area 1000/10/00 will be maintained at header level and Sales Areas 1000/10/01, 1000/10/02, 1000/10/03, etc... for Finished Goods.

hello,

common dc and common div are maintained so that we need not maintained the master data for diff div and dc.

we can maintain one base dc and div and reference this to other dc and div.

this prevents the duplication of master data.

when you change the setting after the master data are maintained then during creation of order we will get errors like...sales area not defined...etc..
