Hi,
Can you tell me the difference between item category group and general item category group? I know they are useful in determination of item category, any other specific purpose than this?

"General Item category group " is used for other module also. and especially it meant for "Inbound delivery"( MM area). It is not valid for the Sales organisation & Distribution channel.
"Item category group" is valid for Sales organisation & Distribution channel (SD) , used in Outbound delivery.
This is the basic difference between these two.

Hi,
Item categories provide additional control functions for the sales documents.
By using an item category, the system can process a material differently in each
sales document type.
The item category in the sales document is defined using the sales document
type and the material.
The item category group allows you to group together different materials that
behave in a similar way during sales and distribution processes, for example. You
can also define new item category groups if needed

Hello,
Itemcategory Group: Group specified in the material master record.
The system uses the item category group and the sales document type to determine the category of a document item. For example, in the SAP standard version the item category group NORM has been defined for all materials that are kept in stock.
As per definition General Item Category Group & Item Category Group both are to detrmine Item Category in Sales Document.
General Item category Group* is an extension item category
group.
Example: if one select item catagory group as NORM, but
under item category group, NORM can
Further be classified as Service item, packagaing item or
Normal item using "general item category group". General
item category group is maintained at client level
In case item category group is missing, then general item category group is used for item category determination.
