Hi,

What is the basic difference between Optimizer, CTM and Heuristics.

Thanks,

Siva.

Heuristic does production allocation based on quotation, prio's not on capacity supply

CTM does production allocation based on quotation, prio's and

capacity supply

Optimization does production allocation based on production and transport and other costs ( target function )

Capacity supply is taken into account

SNP in SAP APO can be executed as finite or infinite planning .

Neither capacity nor material availability is checked in infinite planning . Even if components can not be procured on time , planned orders are created . Capacity leveling is carried out in a second step .

This is done through heuristics .

Now during finite planning , availability of capacities and components required for production is checked when receipts are created . The planned orders can only be created when sufficient capacitys ar available . Any deviation is displayed by an alert . CTM & Optimizer can do this type of feasible planning .

Now CTM does this type of planning based on some rules without taking into consideration various costs like production , storage , transportaion etc so CTM result might be a feasible but not necessarily optimal while optimizer does consider sall these cost and it would result feasible as well as optimal solution .
