Hi,

ALE is only for A2A scenario's

EDI Doesnt support all kind of adapters.

XI is for both A2A and B2B scenarios and supports all kind of adapters.

Thanks,

RamuV

Hi Raghu,

There is a classic example when to use what.

We go for ALE, when we have two loosely coupled systems which need to have the same data and it has to be in sync all the time.

For example, if you create a purchase order in one systemA, yopu want the same purchase order to be created in system B, then you use ALE.ALE is to LATCH two systems and from then onwards, if you make a change to the Purchase order in system A, the change will be reflected in system B also.

EDI IDOC technology is used when you have two partners(Custome and vendor) and you want a sales order to be created in the vendor's system whenever a purchase order is created in the customer's system.

here, the two business document, although have the similar data, one is a purchase order and the other is sales order.

YOu might have noticed that for ALE and EDI IDOC based approaches, both the systems must be SAP.

On the other hand, XI is a MIDDLEWARE tool which does so many other things along with supporting EDI/ALE techniques also.

It serves as a message broker and a HUB for any message exchange between and two applications within tha landscape or outside the landscape.

I might add, that XI can interface sap-sap, sap-non sap, non-sap non-sap systems.

Ravi

Hi Raghu,

Madhu sudhan has given the exact answer.

Using ALE you can only exchange Master data, not Transaction data.

Using XI you can exchange Transaction data also.

Hi,

Can you exchange TRANSACTIONAL DATA using ALE.......

No.........you can use ALE only to exchange MASTER DATA..........for transactional date we use XI........

XI is a middleware and ALE is an interface.......
