basically i am a java programmer. now i want shift to SAP MDM

is it right decision?

what is the relation between java and SAP MDM?

is coding is required for SAP MDM or not?

please provide me SAP MDM fundamental concept pdf files.

Hi,

Yes, your decision is absolutely correct.

Importance of MDM is increasing in market day by day. Soon, it will become boon for IT Companies.

Besides MDM, you must know the integration of MDM with either R/3 or with XI, or with BI or with Portal.

Since you have JAVA experience, which will be very handy in MDM as JAVA API's are vastly used in MDM. So learning MDM will be ideal for you.

No coding is required in MDM. Only in validations and assignments, you need to do some coding.

Hi Ramachandra,

The fact that you are asking about MDM speaks for itself, be rest assured its a very upcoming area.

Regarding relation between JAVA and MDM :-

Usually Portal is used as an interface to enter new data or access the MDM repository by the external users. Java is used to design customized screens for use in such portals.

That is all where Java majorly comes into picture as far as MDM is concerned.

In short, Knowledge of JAVA is not needed for MDM , but however, if you know it, its an additional advantage as you can better understand and resolve the issues faced with portal integration.

Apart from that, no coding is required in MDM.

Hi Ramchandra,

In the current market MDM is considered as the most valuable skill. U shd opt for it and U can also learn the integration of MDM with other prdts like BI,XI,Portal etc.

As MDM can be integrated with above and other third party tools so in this tech. u can also learn others.

Relation b/w JAva and MDM

MDM and Java are related in many manners as in following scenarios:

1) Java is used in Webdynpro in designing iviews which are deployed on Portal.In webdynpro we do coding in Java and access MDM tables and fields.

2) We use Java apis to integrate MDM and other products.

No special coding is done in MDM only we have to write some Validations and Assignments exp in MDM Data manager.

When we are integrating MDM with others like Portal etc we have to do coding in SAP Netweaver.Also when we intrate R/3 and MDM with ABAP apis as per business there may be need of making customize Function modules that will be in ABAP.
