and
What r Excise Registers means and wht r the useful n how can we customise RG1, RG23A & RG23C, RG23D, and PLA?
Plz reply me
Thanks in Advance
Chapter ID are Id provided by the excise authorities to each classification of material and it also tell its relevant excise duty. Eg. 8466.16.10 is used for one of the mechnical goods used/sold in/by manufacturing company. This is maintained by using tcode J1ID.
Excise Registers: Under normal circumstances, excise authorities require every business to maintain only one set of excise registers and one set of accounts. But through exemption from the authorities, multiple books can be maintained and these can be:
1. RG1 - (For Finished Goods),
2.&3.RG23A Part i & ii (For Raw Material)
4.&5. RG23C Part i & ii (For Capital / Trading Goods)
6. RG23D (For Depot Goods)
7. PLA (For other goods like service tax, etc.)
Hope it might helped you.
Take care. JP.

Venkat,
IN Central excise and FT, all materials are classified accordingto what is called the ITC-HS, The International Trade classification - Harmonised system. According to this system, all the materials sold internationaly are classified according to a 8 digit classification. So everyone understands what they are talking about internationally. The first four digits of this stands for the chapter, the next two for the section and the last two for the material. There are 9 chapters in all. You can find all the details in the Import export manual of the GOI.
Now each of these chapters have an excise duty. Some have additional duty, special duty etc etc.
Now SAP uses this data to capture the data so that excise computation easily.
Coming to the registers, these are registers which you need to maintain at each plant showing how the material stock movements take place and how you record the duties and credit of duties you take.
For instance RG1 maintains the daily stock. It has an incoming balance, goods manufactured , goods dispatched and closing balance,
Like that there are several registers you need to maintain to submit to the excise authorities on a periodical basis. Excise dept uses this information to monitor revenues due to the govt and ensure statutory compliance.I would suggest you read the Central excise manual which will answer all your finctional doubts.Any specific questions are welcome.
I hope this answers your questions.

Dear Venkat,
Please go through these SAP help links it will help you about Chapter ID and registers
Chapter ID
The number given to a material in the schedules of materials published by the government of India.
The schedule lists all materials involved in manufacturing, input materials and output materials alike. It shows how much excise duty is levied on each material.
Each material in the schedule is assigned its own identification code, called "chapter ID."
Example
The schedule contains an entry for ceramic roofing tiles, which are liable to basic excise duty at 16%. The chapter ID associated with these tiles is 6903.10.
