Can any one tell me what does Movement type Control in Standard SAP system

Movement type controls the Inventory management.

Some Movement type reduces the inventory of un-restricted stock whereas some movement types increase the inventory un-restricted stock and with certain movement type block stock is increased etc.

Examples

In normal sales process, we make PGI, which reduces the unrestricted stock. Here movement type 601 is associated. That means, with movement type 601, unrestricted stock goes down.

Similarly, when goods comes back dus to some complaint, movement type 651 is used and this stock goes to the Restricted/Blocked stock.

That means with movement type 651,block stock goes up.

The movement type has important control functions in Inventory Management.

For example, the movement type plays an important role in

- updating of quantity fields

- updating of stock and consumption accounts

- determining which fields are displayed during entry of a document in the system
